Listen to a lost Hoover song in this live video

VHS captures a high-energy set from 1993 with an early version of “TNT” and other rarities

The sound is pretty rough (as expected) but Hoover obsessives will definitely dig this. It shows some of what made Hoover such an enigma in the punk scene at the time: Orson Welles roaring in the background, no audience interaction and their incredibly tight segues between songs (sadly some were edited out of this).

Split into 3 videos it captures the early sound of the band with material largely in the vein of their 7”’s including an unreleased track and an early version of “TNT” that is almost entirely different than the song they’d be playing a year later (and would include on the posthumous reunion EP).

Part 1: TNT / Father

Part 2: Pretender / Route 7 / Unreleased Song (Beard)

I think this is the first Hoover video I’ve seen with an unreleased song so I reached out to former Hoover guitarist Alex Dunham to get some context:

“Beard.” Lost tune. Think it’s on an Olympia tape comp recorded on tour at/with Tim Green.

“Don’t let them take it. They’ll Try.” — Dan Higgs to Joe

It’s a driving, fast-tempo jam in the vein of their 7” and it starts at 5:52 if you’re impatient.

A search through Discogs, Google and YouTube yields no results so if anybody knows what this comp is called or even better has a copy, leave a comment.

Part 3: Letter / Return (unfortunately it cuts off mid-song)

Incidentally this show was with the legendary Lincoln so if you want to check that out, here you go: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4
