TRVSS blaze through 3 covers on their new EP
The Pittsburgh noise-rock trio puts tunes from Radiohead, Bjork and The Germs under new ownership.
Its probably good that I didn’t know this was a covers record before I clicked the link because there’s a good chance I wouldn’t have listened to it (though I had a clue with “What We Do Is Secret”, right?) For whatever reason nothing turns me off faster than news of a cover. I guess I just expect some filler bullshit and now I find it triggering.
That said, I’m relieved I didn’t know what was up with “The Boiling Frog” because there’s nothing ironic or filler about TRVSS’ versions of these songs. They’re all fury — distorted bass and screaming — and insanely efficient with minutes shaved off off the Radiohead and Bjork joints. Its kinda like why bother repeating the parts when you can just let the listener hit repeat if they need to hear it again?
