Luggage bring noise to post-punk with video for “Shift”
Decibel came through with an intro to a Chicago band that I hadn’t heard of yet: Luggage. “Shift” is a study in texture that keeps building and downshifting. This might be a back-handed compliment (thought not intended to be) but it reminds of the kinda thing that is usually hidden in the back half of an Unwound record or a Young Widows b-side. It never really explodes instead coming a to a kind of repeated halt. These guys do a lot without doing much, i dig it.
Also, this Josh Ford-directed video is great. It gets at the same idea that makes the song work: these shifting planes of texture and fuzz. Killer stuff all around.
