Coilguns deliver unsettling noise rock in the vein of Kiss It Goodbye on new single
Revolver knew how to get my attention with this one — just shout out Neurosis and Unsane in the headline. Happily they followed through with something worthy. Coilguns is a Swiss outfit whose first record came out in 2012 and if their back catalog is up to par with this I'm in for a treat.
“Manicheans” is the first joint from their upcoming LP Watchwinders and its got heavy guitars that bounce around in that kind of Unsane way (or maybe like my other favorite band of the recent. You know, too heavy to be called rock and too much bass to be metal.
Now I can see the Neurosis comparison but here’s what it really reminds me off: Kiss It Goodbye. Vocalist Louis Jucker at some point no longer feels like he’s singing for a band so much as trying to make a fucking point over a plodding melodic riff that doesn’t sound like KIG’s “Sick Day” but it sure feels like it.
Also let’s talk about how great this sleeve is. Its great.
To find out what they’re yelling about and to pre-order Watchwinders go read the write-up at Revolver.
[UPDATE: Listening to their 2018 LP Millenials rn. New. Favorite. Band.]
Question for you: if you were already up on these guys, what’s your go-to jam?
